B. Students studying at university:
  1. Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme at a recognised university in Bangladesh; and
  2. Fulfilment of the English language requirement by obtaining one of the following:
    1. A score of 550 or better in the paper-based TOEFL (213 for computer-based, 80 for internet-based); or
    2. A minimum overall band of 6.5 in IELTS; or

A. Students from high schools:

Alberta

Passes in five acceptable Grade 12 courses, provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these courses.

British Columbia

Passes in five acceptable subjects in the Senior Secondary Graduation Diploma (Grade 12 or BC Provincially Examinable Courses), provided that not less than grade B is achieved in each of these subjects.

Manitoba

High school graduation diploma with five full credits at Grade 12 level (i.e. 40 level) in courses designated S(Specialized), G(General), or U(University-based), provided that at least 70% is achieved in three out of the five credits which should be S or U courses.

New Brunswick

Passes in five acceptable subjects in the High School Graduation Diploma, provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these subjects.

Newfoundland

Passes in at least five acceptable subjects in the Grade 12 High School Diploma, provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these subjects.

Nova Scotia

Passes in five acceptable Grade 12 subjects in Honours University Preparatory Courses or in University Preparatory Courses in the High School Completion Certificate, provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these subjects.

Ontario

Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses of which a minimum grade of 70% is obtained in each of these courses.

Prince Edward Island

Passes in five acceptable Grade 12 subjects in the High School Graduation Diploma, provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these subjects.

Quebec

Diploma d-Etudes Collegiales (DEC) (Diploma of Collegial Studies).

Saskatchewan

Passes in five acceptable subjects of Division IV standing (Grade 12), provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these subjects.

B. Students studying at university:

Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme at a recognised university in Canada.

(Qualifications obtained in colleges in Canada are not recognised by the University for undergraduate admission.)

Students at International Schools taking examinations other than the National Joint College Entrance Examination (NJCEE):

The entrance requirements should follow those of the country to which the qualification belongs.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview in a major city in the mainland, e.g. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, in 2011.

    4. one shall be a language other than English (e.g. German, French), or if Chinese/Mandarin is offered as a language other than English, a pass in the GCE Advanced Level examination is required; 
  2. Grade E or above in two subjects (other than Chinese/Mandarin) in GCE Advanced Level examination and grade E or above in one subject (other than Chinese/Mandarin) in GCE Advanced Subsidiary Level examination, or the equivalent; and
  3. Grade D or above in AS Use of English in HKALE or grade D or above in AS English Language in GCE examination. In the latter case, GCE AS English Language shall be in addition to the GCEA requirement as stipulated in (2) above.

(Note: HKCEE results are accepted in lieu of GCSE on a subject for subject basis. In the case of English Language and Chinese Language obtained in the HKCEE in or after 2007, Level 4 or better is accepted for satisfying the English and Chinese requirements in GCSE.)

B. Students at International Schools taking examinations other than GCSE and GCE:

The entrance requirements should follow those of the country to which the qualification belongs.

C. Students studying at Shue Yan University:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme.

D. Students reading a Bachelor's Degree in a UGC-funded institution*:

Following the guidelines of the University Grants Committee (UGC) on inter-institutional transfer, HKU will not normally accept applications from students currently reading a bachelor's degree in another UGC-funded institution, unless there are exceptional circumstances and the following conditions are met:

  1. Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme with excellent academic results; 
  2. The candidate is applying for a programme at HKU which is the same as or similar to that of the candidate's current study; and 
  3. The programme at HKU will recognise the credit units the candidate earned from his/her current institution, so that the candidate does not have to repeat a year. 
E. Students reading an Associate Degree (AD) / a Higher Diploma (HD) in a community college of a UGC-funded institution:
  1. Gain in the HKCEE 
    1. Level 3 or above in English Language;
    2. Level 2 or above in Chinese Language; or grade E or above in a language other than Chinese and English;
    3. Grade E or above in three other subjects;
  2. At least 13 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis, including one year of successful study on a full-time AD / HD programme in a community college of a UGC-funded institution which should be at least two years in duration.

Applicants who do not fulfil the requirements above must have successfully completed either a 2-year AD / HD programme or two years' study on a 3-year HD programme in order to be eligible for admission.

F. Students reading a Higher Diploma at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (HKIVE):

  1. Gain in the HKCEE 
    1. Level 3 or above in English Language;
    2. Level 2 or above in Chinese Language; or grade E or above in a language other than Chinese and English;
    3. Grade E or above in three other subjects;
  2. At least 13 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis, including one year of successful study on a full-time HD programme in HKIVE which should be at least two years in duration; and
  3. Grade D or above in AS Use of English in HKALE or a score of 500 or better in the paper-based TOEFL (173 for computer-based, 61 for internet-based).

Applicants who do not fulfil the requirements 1) and / or 2) above must have successfully completed either a 2-year HD programme or two years' study on a 3-year HD programme in order to be eligible for admission.

* Note: 

  1. Grade E or above in English Language (Syllabus B) or Grade C or above in English Language (Syllabus A) taken before 2007 is acceptable for this purpose. Candidates with Level 2 in English Language but Grade C or above in AS Use of English in HKALE will also be considered.

  2. Grade E or above in Chinese Language taken before 2007 is acceptable to this purpose.

    B. Students taking the Malaysian UEC-Senior Level Examination:

    1. Passes in six subjects (excluding English) in the Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools System Unified Examination Certificate (UEC-Senior), provided that B6 or better is achieved in each of those subjects;
    2. Fulfilment of the English language requirement by obtaining one of the following;
      1. Grade B4 or better in UEC-Senior English Language; or 
      2. A score of 550 or better in the paper-based TOEFL (213 for computer-based, 80 for internet-based);

    2. A minimum of 14 credits at level 1 or higher in Mathematics on the National Qualifications Framework; and 
    3. A minimum of 8 credits at level 2 or higher in English; 4 credits must be in Reading and 4 credits must be in Writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards. 

    B. Students studying at university:

    Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme at a recognised university in New Zealand.

    Diploma, Professional Diploma or Technical Diploma awarded by one of the following institutions, provided that the period of study extends over not less than two years (full-time) or four years (part-time): Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic or Temasek Polytechnic.

    C. Students studying at university:

    Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's degree programme at a recognised university in Singapore.


    South Africa

    South Korea

    A. Students from high schools:

    United States of America

    A. Students from high schools:

    1. The US High School Graduation Diploma;
    2. Passes in five Grade 12 courses, provided that at least 70% is achieved in each of these courses; and,
      1. either Advanced Placement (AP) Examination of the American College Board, provided that at least two subjects are passed at grade 3 or better;
      2. or an overall minimum score of 1800 in SATI with the minimum subscores of 550 in Critical Reading, 550 in Writing and 650 in Mathematics.
      (Note: ACT and SATII are not accepted in fulfilment of the above requirements.)

    B. Students studying Associate Degree (AD) in the US or in a US university/college operating in Hong Kong:

    1. The US High School Graduation Diploma;
    2. At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
    3. Successful completion of one year's study on a full-time AD programme at a recognized US university / community college, provided that the AD programme is at least two years in duration.
    Applicants who do not fulfil the requirements above must have obtained the AD in order to be eligible for admission.

    C. Students following Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) in community colleges:

    1. The US High School Graduation Diploma;
    2. At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time basis; and
    3. Successful completion of IGETC with Grade C or above in each of the subjects.

    D. Students studying at university/college:

    Mature Students

    An applicant shall also be deemed to have satisfied the minimum university entrance requirements if he/she has reached the age of 25 on or before September 1 of the year in which admission is sought.



     
     
     
     

    Other Qualifications

    BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND).

    BTEC National Certificate (NC) or National Diploma (ND), provided that at least three full units are passed at Merit level.
