HKSaiKungWebSmallFor serious partying, the restaurant and bar areas of Lan Kwai Fong and Soho are areas for a great night out, as they echo to the sounds of bands or DJs. Some of musics greatest stars have played in Hong Kong, as it tends to be an easy stopover for Asian tours by bands, artists and orchestras.  The city is noted particularly for its food, with restaurants catering for every taste. Furthermore, Hong Kong has long been the meeting point of Oriental and Western cultures, and, for many students, this makes a stay in Hong Kong one of the most interesting periods of their life.  Within an hour or two of Hong Kong are some of the most varied, friendly and culturally exciting countries of the world. Indeed, academically, HKU is a focal point for students of the region, particularly for research students.

  5. A quality university. Hong Kong's oldest university, The University of Hong Kong, on Hong Kong Island, is one of the world’s top universities (26th in the world, according to the 2008-9 QS World University Rankings by the U.K.’s Times Higher Education Supplement). It was ranked as the best English-language university in Asia and Australia by the most recent Asiaweek magazine survey and the best in Hong Kong (THES, Education 18 etc.). It has the best Business School in the whole of Asia and Australia, according to the most recent (2005) review by the Economist Intelligence Unit (U.K.). The medium of instruction is English throughout all faculties, although a few departments and programmes, such as Chinese, Chinese Medicine, and postgraduate social work tend to teach in Chinese. Degrees from the University are highly respected in the local and international community, and particularly so in the Mainland, and are preferred by employers in Hong Kong.
